Need to Know

This is a very remote ski run crossing/skiing numerous avalanche paths. If you are a beginner/intermediate skier, this is not the run out area for you. If you are not fully self sufficient with all required gear, avoid this area.

Description

From the initial drop-in point, we skirted rocks to our right, staying above the trees. We needed to gain the next ridge to be sure we made it into Flora Creek. If you drop in too early, you ski steep south and west-facing avalanche paths back into Roberts Creek.

Once we gained the ridge/shoulder, we skied this in fairly easy, wide open trees for a while, eventually skiing steeper older avalanche paths (considerable new tree growth) northwest toward the Flora Creek drainage. This section was some of the best skiing, but steep enough to be problematic (be cautious).

Soon after, the trees get tighter, but still skiable, and then we dropped into the Flora Creek drainage. Flora Creek drainage is steeper and has considerably more rocks/downed trees/obstacles than Roberts Creek. Down lower the Walls become 50' tall which would make entering this lower section challenging without a rope and harness to rappel.

Overall, the creek skiing was awesome, fast skiing with mandatory air onto pillows. This skiing would be near impossible during early season or during low snow years. The drain into 7 Mile/Frazier River is no problem, and then, shortly after, you are at the highway.
