Need to Know

Class 3 avalanche terrain. www.TaosAvalancheCenter.org and NNMAE.org are good sites to find and share info.

Description

Accessing this line from the top requires rappelling down a large cliff. Otherwise, the line can be climbed when avalanche potential is low. From the bottom of the large cliff band at the top, the chute is narrow and steep; it gradually widens and levels onto an open pow field.

History & Background

Skiing on Kachina's east side is a cherished treasure. Avalanches occur often here, but when it's safe to ride, this is some of the best terrain around.
