Description

Start from the AMC Mt. Cardigan Lodge and follow the relatively flat Holt trail up river and across the bridge for about a mile. At the junction continue up the Alexandria Trail as it climbs towards the summit of Mt. Cardigan. On the ascent, you'll pass a rescue cache and the AMC high cabin. It is possible to continue to the fire tower at the summit but the area above the treeline may be extremely icy and windblown.

Ski down the way you came.

History & Background

The Alexandria trail was first cut by the CCC in 1934.

Went up holt trail then down Alexandria. Going up holt makes the elevation gain a little easier and reducing running into people coming down. 4.2mi

Very fun trail, very wide at its primary section, upper areas tighter but very manageable. Traversed to Kimble on the way down, low angle but worth it 6.6mi
