Overview

This couloir can sometimes be skied from the summit of Meeker, but if that's melted out you can start just west of the summit at the top of an obvious bowl. From there, it descends the entire south face of Meeker, just to the right of the Dragon's Egg rock formation.

Description

Start by climbing Meeker. There's a few ways to do this. You can start from Wild Basin and either boot up the couloir or go up Meeker's SE ridge. You could also start from the Longs Peak TH and go up the Loft route until you're at the Loft and then branch off towards Meeker. You could even go up Lambslide to get to the Loft, or if you're really adventurous , maybe climb Dreamweaver to gain Meeker. Lots of good options, choose your own adventure.

Meeker's summit if a pretty cool ridgeline, it's quite narrow in the winter. If you're skiing from the summit, you'll drop directly south onto fairly steep terrain (probably high-40's). Keep in mind that this slope is sitting on rock slabs that hold a lot of heat. Traverse this slope to the west (skier's right) until you reach the bowl that give a clear view most of the way down the couloir. From there, enjoy a deceptively long descent while taking in the views of the Indian Peaks.

Once you get to the bottom, follow a creek until you hit the Wild Basin Trail. Follow the trail all the way out to Wild Basin (right by the park entrance station). This trail is long, hilly, and mostly flat, so plan on getting out taking a while. If you started from the Longs Peak TH, you'll probably want to plan ahead and leave a shuttle car here.
