Overview

II D5 R1
The approach has great views of Horseshoe Mountain's cirque, and the descent makes for some fun carving. Most of the route is in the low 30's, with a max angle of 38 degrees at the bottom.

Need to Know

The plateau and choke are terrain traps, so be careful of the north-facing chutes surrounding them. The approach and descent go through private land. Stay on the road, and be wary.

Description

Either the route listed here or Horseshoe Mountain: East Slopes can be taken as an approach. Aim slightly left of the cirque either way, ending up on a plateau just below the line. Ascend the steepest portion at the choke, then angle right up the open slopes under the cornice. Top out by the wooden structure on the ridge, then make a quick jaunt to the summit. Depending on conditions you could hop the cornice.

History & Background

Lots of mining activity. You'll start near the Leavick ruins, follow old mining roads, and encounter several old wood buildings on the way.

Horseshoe's cirque is off to the right. The choke is just off-center in the photo, between the patches of rocks.
