Overview

A wide open bowl with lots of descent options. Expect big smiles and nice intermediate backcountry lines.

Description

The main Butler Gulch ascent goes straight up the center of the valley, running alongside the creek. About a mile and a half up, the ascent splits east to Butler Gulch: East, and west (right) to Butler Gulch: West. Continue ascending to Butler Gulch: West along an old road to the tree line and Butler Bowl.

First ski of the new year! Layer of crust underneath a top layer of powder, but very enjoyable. Stay skiers left on descent to avoid the creek.
