Overview

This is the more difficult descent from the the peak of Standkopf Approach. However, it is also more rewarding. It includes a lot of different terrain. A tight col at the top and a big bowl that is rarely skied in comparison to how many ascents the peak sees every year.

Need to Know

This descent generally requires a little more snow. Usually, it does not work very well early in the winter. Also, keep in mind, that this would be prime avalanche terrain. Make sure to read the snow reports before dropping in.

Description

Before you drop in, enjoy the view east with a perfect view onto Galtenkopf, the most significant mountain in the immediate range.

From the very peek of Standkopf Approach, keep going down the ridge the opposite side of the approach. Essentially you want to go as low into the notch before it rises again on the other side. From there, you can see your descent clearly, or at least the first part until the bowl. Ski down the tight part and enjoy as it opens up and widens into a big snow field. Here is the tricky part. Since you might not be able to see the entire run from the top, make sure to stay somewhat to the left as you descent. The bottom section, if continued straight, can cliff out and then it becomes really hard route finding.

Stay to the left and make sure you see ahead of you. Eventually, a larger snowfield opens up that connects you to the little gully that you approached. Ski down that line until you are back in the gully. Ride the gully all the way to the valley floor and follow your ski track back out to the car.
