Need to Know

This trail can get extremely crowded. Be prepared for a line of climbers on holiday weekends. Rangers are typically stationed at Helen Lake on popular weekends and can give valuable beta before taking off. Extreme winds are fairly common after Helen Lake.

Description

This is the most popular ascent to the summit of Mt Shasta. This is typically done on the second day after camping at Helen Lake. From camp, head up to the Red Banks and Misery Hill. The ascend to the Red Banks is deceptively far, and you can expect to boot pack most of the way there.
