Jose Calar has worked in support of communications, marketing and advertising for nearly 25 years in the private and public sector. His background includes leading marketing efforts to recruit postsecondary students, creating campaigns to promote academic support services, leading marketing and communications for a teaching hospital and managing communications for large manufacturing companies.

He holds a Master's degree in Public Administration with a focus on health and public policy, a Bachelor's degree in English Language and Literature, a diploma in Print Journalism and is pursuing a PhD in Cultural Studies, examining the power structures inherent in media and other organizations and institutions.
