Need to Know

Expect cold (-17 the morning we skied it).

Description

Park at the turnout on the east side of Hwy 191, south of the bridge over the Gallatin River, and north of the Bacon Rind Trailhead.

Head northwest, angling downriver, but away from the road, on sage plain. Upon entering the trees, continue north across the streambed coming down from the west, then turn left and begin climbing the ridge just north of the streambed.

Switchback up the ridge through fairly dense trees (NOTE: due to forest fire here in summer of 2018, it may no longer be "densely treed"). About 500 feet up, trees start to thin, and slopes open up.

Continue up to a final headwall (may want to switchback up this section, or ascend left, then cut back right to avoid steepest track) to a flat summit, from which a look west will reveal views of Ernest Miller Ridge. The descent follows the up-track, or stays just south of it.
