Overview

Lil' Japan is an area on your way up to Jewel Lake that is worth skiing if there is a lot of snow, especially during storms when avalanche danger can be too high to go up the Ruby Jewel Bowl.

Need to Know

If no significant snowfall has occurred, this area is less than ideal. It is best when the snow is deep when this area can be excellent for powder skiing.

Description

It is a short skin from the Clark Peak or Ruby Jewel Yurt. The area contains tree skiing with a variety of angles and trees that are far enough apart for beginners to feel comfortable linking turns.

You can start the skin track from the Jewel Lake Approach and either stop there or ski down to the South Fork of the Canadian River. Be careful not to fall into the creek. Trend WNW for easier angles or SW for steeper terrain.
