Need to Know

Glacial Hazards on ascent and below the line. Proper mountaineering skills needed to gain the summit.

Description

If you find youself on top of this line when conditions are good, you are about to enjoy one of the finest lines in the Alaska Range.

Access is primarily via the College Glacier Access and then The Steg (osaurus). From the summit of Peak 8100, head slightly west to find the top of the couloir down the SW face of the mountain.

Drop in and hold on. Watch the bergschrund near the bottom and other glacial hazards as the couloir spits you out on a hanging glacier above the main body of the College Glacier.

The summit of 8100 just touched by the sun. SXSW is the couloir directly below the summit. Note the rock and other glacial hazards below the line.
