Description

The approach to Mahler Couloirs starts at Hwy 14 if there's a lot of snow. The route is encompassed by the state park, so get a pass when you turn off of Hwy 14. Some time in May/June, the road usually opens to right below the lake, and the area is accessible with a 2wd vehicle. Be warned if you have low clearance, there's a small stream crossing located just before the trailhead.

You'll begin the first part of this ascent on mellow terrain for about 2 miles until you reach Lake Agnes. Continue hiking up past Lake Agnes on the left side and pick the path of least resistance up to the saddle to ski the bowl or up the Couloirs.

The terrain here is fairly steep, so use proper avalanche safety protocol on the ascent. Once you reach the top, you'll have your pick of descents!
