Need to Know

This line is only skiable in good snow years! It also needs to undergo skier compaction for a solid base to form, otherwise you'll be skiing through facets and you'll be riding on scree.

Description

As good as it gets for how close it is to Colorado Springs! This line sits above North Cheyenne Canon and just west of the now closed section of Gold Camp Road. Park in the large lot and trailhead for the Seven Bridges Trail and follow the old Gold Camp Road back towards the west.

The Diamond Couloir will be VERY obvious! It's not necessarily a couloir, but more of an old slide path that begins as a funnel, narrows down to a choke, and then continues as a broad chute between the trees. The whole run is a third of a mile and makes for excellent powder skiing in the right conditions. Its north aspect also means that it holds snow really well and will be soft days after a storm.

The word is getting out about this line, and so it is best to ski it right after a fresh dump. Makes for an excellent 2-hour dawn patrol lap before work. Most people climb up the couloir with a switchbacking skin track, but you can also ascend the eastern ridge of the peak to access the top of the line.

If the conditions are right, rip your skins at the top and get ready for some awesome turns! And, don't ski too far down or you'll get some epic coreshots.

History & Background

Not often skied because it depends on great snow, but during the Winter of 2014-2015 this line was seeing daily descents from Colorado Springs locals.

Awesome snow on the Diamond Couloir after an early morning run, be prepared for tracked out snow if you don't do a dawn patrol, even on powder days
