Description
Steep and consistent hike. Leave early (we did 5:30 am), take it slow and steady with frequent breaks; that's the only way you'll get up there carrying skis. It is beautiful and shaded by trees up until you reach the little lake. At that point, the shade goes away, and the real ascent begins. It is likely the trail will be covered with snow at certain sections, so bringing spikes is recommended to avoid slipping out every other step. Once you gain the ridgeline, take a cool picture next to the cornices and continue along the ridgeline up yet more steep terrain. As you move across, you'll get great views of the line you'll be skiing down from the summit all the way back to the lake. Channel all that stoke you feel into keeping your legs from falling off as you continue trudging towards the summit (you're almost there!). Once you reach your desired entrance to the Grand Couloir, drop your packs and head to the summit of Spanish Fork Peak (because you'd be stupid to go this far and not walk the 200 yards left to bag one of the Wasatch 7) go back to your packs and get ready to have the time of your life cruising down delicious slush.
