Overview

The SE Face of Hagar offers an awesome moderate line off of the summit of a 13er.

Description

Take the Dry Gulch Approach. There will likely be a split in the skintrack once in the upper bowl of Hagar, Golden Bear, and The Citadel, which splits into the direction of each. The line to the top of Hagar will be obvious, and likely also well travelled any day.

After reaching the saddle, hike the last few hundred feet to the top of Hagar, and the SE Face will be a very obvious (and likely tracked) line heading directly back down into the basin.

This line slides regularly and evidence of avalanche activity will likely be very present. A small consolation is that the exposure is limited and for the most part this line runs out into a massive flat snowfield with few rocks or other hazards.

This is an amazing spring line for those looking to move from ski touring to harder backcountry skiing.

Top of the line, the summit to the left offers a few more steeper turns. Dry gulch is below, and Torrey/Grays are the tall pks (horizon right)..
