Overview

A lower-angle option in Hyalite with good snow, but with some tricky route finding and a long approach.

Description

This is a fun little 400' glade that has more manageable terrain if you stay in the trees. It is connected to a very large bowl with massive avalanche potential (just watch this: youtube.com/watch?v=Tp5A5YR…), so be very careful in your route choice and stick to the low angle trees north of the bowl.

Be sure to stop at the bottom well outside of the runout zone. The setting of this run is beautiful as the summit of Flanders Peak looks into the Hyalite Creek drainage and has amazing views.

Start at the East Fork of Hyalite parking lot and head up the road for about a mile. Right before the Palisade Falls trailhead, there is a trail that heads due south up to the right of the road. Follow that trail all the way into the Flanders Creek basin. There are downed logs and a few steep bits to navigate.

Once up in the basin, navigate to the west. Use onX Backcountry or some other tool with slope angle to make sure you are sticking to lower angle slopes, as the terrain and route finding can get tricky. There is substantial overhead hazard in this basin, so be heads up about your position and route finding.
