Overview

Lazy Chute is a close and steep couloir that is only accessible by bootpacking. Since this is one of the larger overlooks on Icefileds Parkway, you'll most likely have a crowd watching you hike up and descend the steep slope.

Need to Know

National Park pass required. Limited cell service available.

Description

Park at the Crowfoot Glacier overlook, 35 km north of Lake Louis. Follow the Crowfoot Mountain approach across Bow Lake and head straight up the couloir staring you in the face. The couloir is very wide at the base allowing easy turns for anyone who only wants to go half way up.

At the center point, there is a rock outcropping covering half of the gully for about 20 feet of elevation. Make sure you ski to the side of this outcropping. The upper half of the couloir gets narrower but doesn't get much steeper than the lower half. Watch for short sections of exposed rock near the top.
