Vance's Cabin Approach

Type: Backcountry or Sidecountry

Look for signs to the 10th Mountain Parking Area as you make your way into Ski Cooper.

At the NE corner of the lot, follow the nordic trail system NE that goes into Piney Gulch. About 0.75 miles in, you leave the nordic system and ski up the left fork into a clearing around 10,650 feet.

Go NW and climb through the clearing to the north end of the saddle north of Point 10,963. From here, you can see Taylor Hill (which has good skiing). Climb east briefly, then go north and traverse 0.5 miles along the western face of Taylor Hill. You'll eventually come to another clearing around 11,150 ft. east of the hut. Go down from here and west about 1,000 feet to reach the cabin.
