Type: Backcountry or Sidecountry
Very steep. Go straight up or take two options for ridge lines. I recommend the higher ridge line directly behind rainbow mountain ridge into the upper bowl for the least steep approach angle.
Overview
At the top you overlook all of Rainbow glacier from Over the Rainbow Bowl and can see North to Fairbanks. Rock outcrops jet up along the couloir you are about to drop into. All steep vert all the way to the bottom!
Description
Dropping into the couloir one hits steep slopes of 60 degrees plus for 400ft before a brief 30 degree section. Pick your line on the way up to avoid accidently dropping a cliff or hitting some rocks. The roll overs are rocky on the tops due to wind stay in the middle between the rocks. The second roll over is just as steep. Stay skiers left for more wide open "less" steep turns or stay right for steep and additional couloir action. Skiers left will give you a longer run. Skiers right will stay steep and short.
High consequence avalanche terrain.
