Type: Backcountry or Sidecountry
Overview
This line is a beautiful, prominent chute in lower Logan canyon. Amazing views, protected snow, and a fun test in ski mountaineering.
Description
*80 meter rope and harness needed!* Fiddle stick is also needed for a 80m high repel at the end of the chute.
The hardest part of this route is getting to and from the chute. I'll tell you what we did and your options.
Approach:
We hiked up Mill Hallow trail about 2 miles, took a right up one of the breaks in the cliffs, and took the ridge up the start of the chute. It was deep snow and bush whacking, pretty miserable.
It may be better to approach from the roads around Logan peak. You would drop down a suitable place around Mill Hallow and traverse to the start of the chute.
Decent:
The decent has a 10 m cliff midway through and a 80 m cliff at the end. The 10 m cliff could be dropped but we repelled it by anchoring around a tree.
The 80 m cliff has an anchoring system and took a single strain of our 80 m rope to make it to the bottom. A fiddle stick would be necessary for this repel if you wanted to get your rope back.
After the repel we hikes down the valley to the road. Again it was bushwhacking and deep snow.
Another possibility to avoid the 80 m cliff would be to traverse skiers right along the cliffs to mill hallow. You would come down a break in the cliff line and head straight for the mill hallow trail. This traverse might be a little sketchy so stay high above the cliffs incase you fall.
All in all it took 10 hours to complete this trip.
