“The furthest high-angle zone south of the pass dropping east toward Old Pass Road with a handful of lines to choose.”
— Zander Göpfert
Type: Backcountry or Sidecountry
Need to Know
There are interspersed cliff bands and rocks to navigate.
The Claw has a few different lines like the Playboy Chutes, Double Barrel (Hidden Couloir), Butt Crack, and Dogleg. This is a higher-angle zone than the ridges and bowls leading to this point along the east side of the Ridge Road/Mt Ely Skintrack. All lines end at the bottom of Avalanche Bowl
and follow the drainage toward Old Pass Road.
