Overview

X-Rated couloir is the most classic descent of Sayers (13,738').

Need to Know

Don't underestimate the approach up La Plata Gulch, the shenanigans are strong with this one.

Description

From the summit, you get a great view down the couloir on the north face of the peak. To enter the couloir, you can either down-climb ~30 feet below the summit to the northwest, or ski the southeast face for ~60 feet to an obvious entrance to the north-facing couloir.

The couloir itself is an excellent, mostly direct, line down the face of the peak with the steepest and narrowest part near the bottom.

To approach the couloir, start from the La Plata trailhead, off 82. Follow the La Plata summer trail into La Plata Gulch. Follow the gulch all the way to its end, and you're at Sayers. The easiest way to climb Sayers is up the grand chute which is just west of X-Rated. This chute is not as steep and much wider (you can skin up it to a couple hundred feet from the summit).
