Avalanche risk for Nov 26, 2017: Low

Generally safe avalanche conditions. Watch for unstable snow on isolated terrain features. Natural and human-triggered avalanches unlikely.

The summit of Sunset Peak is the border between Salt Lake County, Wasatch County, and Utah County.

Description

Most Skiers who venture to Sunset Peak don't do so for the skiing but for the views. The surrounding slopes get very steep and are uninviting to most backcountry skiers.

Get there by taking Alta's Supreme chairlift and follow the ridge towards Brighton. This route may be tracked out by tourers skiing the Alta-Brighton Interconnect. The interconnect drops off the ridgeline just before summiting Sunset Peak where the slope angle is lower.
