Approach for Moonlight Peak.

Austin Yeoman
Type: Backcountry or Sidecountry

Need to Know

This area offers many options for ascents and descents.

Description

This line has been locally known as The Nose for generations.

Park at the Antelope Butte pullout off HW 14 (don't block the Antelope Butte Access Road). The approach starts on the west side of HWY-14 and the climb begins within the first 50 yards. It is not necessary to skin up the open glade of the top pitch. From the halfway bench skin climbers right, switchbacking above a low cliff band in the denser trees and through a small gap in the summit cliff band. This leaves the nose itself untracked for the descent, and has safer snowpit assessment spots.
