“A steep descent on the Northwest Face of Parry Peak, in a zone called the "Bear Claw".”
— Donny O'Neill
Type: Backcountry or Sidecountry
Need to Know
Watch for moose.
This descent is well worth the slog to get to Parry Peak's summit. The descent features a choke near the top in most years; a high snow year may get rid of it. A low snow year may prevent a descent from the summit.
The chute is an incredible, sustained descent that opens up into an ultra fun apron before hitting the treeline. From there, it's a bit of a bushwhack back to US 40 and the Mary Jane access road. It's advised that you park one car down there and one at the Berthoud summit lot.
