A quick and easy 580' climb in exchange for 1600' vert!

Type: Backcountry or Sidecountry

Description

Sometime in the late 1960's, Golden Peak had it's beautiful aspen grove slashed for a new lift. Only problem: there was no lift to put there. Oops! The straight line of cut trees up Golden Peak is visible from almost anywhere on the mountain.

From the mid-point of the Riva Bahn chair (or hike to that point), look left and immediately head into the woods at a gentle angle. After a while you should be able to notice the tree cut line. It's now filled with small aspens, but notice the neighboring forest has MUCH larger, older trees.

You can go straight up the cut line, or wander back and forth at whatever angle you choose. There is often a boot pack to follow.

Gain the small summit and enjoy the views in all directions.
